For $30,000, you aren’t going to be able to get a Ferrari, unless it’s the kind that fell off the back of a truck or is long past the collectible stage.
However, for that same amount you are able to get a Ferrari coffee table book, which comes with its own chromed-out stand that invokes the cylinder heads and exhaust pipes of one of the automaker’s iconic V-12 engines.
Penned by Italian writer and journalist Pino Allievi for Taschen, Ferrari, Art Edition is a 514-page book that uses Allievi’s words and hundreds of rare photos to tell and show the story of where the iconic Italian marque came from and where it is going.
Allievi, who worked with Enzo Ferrari himself on the 1988 book Ferrari Racconta, worked closely with Ferrari on the project and it features exclusive content from the brand’s archives.
Said to be a production that’s “unparalleled in its scale,” Ferrari merges “hundreds of unseen photographs and documents to reveal the unique story behind Ferrari’s victories, its protagonists, and its legacy.”
And that’s just the book.
As noted about, Ferrari, Art Edition is delivered enclosed in an aluminum display case designed by Marc Newson, an industrial designer who’s previously been included in TIME’s “100 Most Influential People” list.
That case is presented on a hand-bent steel sculpture that’s modeled on the 12-cylinder engine, also by Newson.
Leather-bound and stitched by hand, each book comes autographed by Sergio Marchionne, John Elkann, and Piero Ferrari.
Available in October and limited to a run of just 250 books, Ferrari is also available as a Collector’s Edition that is delivered sans case and metal auto sculpture, but also costs $24,000 less than the price of the Art Edition.
